Aerial view of a dark charcoal shingle roof on a manufactured home with a white pickup in the drive, Sumter County, FL

When the weather comes through Webster, we are fifteen minutes out.

Tarps go up first. The photographs and the claim file come next. Then the permanent repair, house and outbuildings both, from a shop in Bushnell.

Storm damage roofing · Webster

Out here a storm does not hit one roof. It hits four.

That is what makes storm work around Webster different from storm work in a subdivision. A property here is rarely just a house. It is the house, the pole barn, the shop, maybe a shed that holds more value than any of them. Hurricane season runs June through November, and our summers throw microbursts, hail and straight-line wind at every one of those roofs at once.

So when we come out after a blow, we walk the whole place rather than only the structure on the work order. That extra half hour has saved people a second emergency two weeks later.

What we actually find

The damage that shows up on rural property.

Shingle roofs, metal roofs and low-slope manufactured home sections all fail differently in wind. Here is what we go looking for.

  • Ridge caps stripped off the peak. The highest line takes the most lift, so a run of missing or rocking cap is often the only thing visible from the driveway, and a reliable sign the slopes below got worked over too.
  • Shingle tabs creased but not gone. Wind folds a tab back and lays it flat again. The seal is broken and the mat may be cracked, but the roof looks perfect from the ground. That is the one that stains a ceiling in the fall.
  • Panel fasteners backed out. On metal, wind works the screws loose a fraction of a turn at a time. The washer no longer seats, and every one of those holes becomes a slow drip you cannot see from below.
  • Lifted panel edges and ridge closures. Once air gets under a leading edge on a barn or shop roof, the next gust has a handle to pull on. That is how a whole run peels back at one time.
  • Low-slope seams opened on manufactured homes. Shallow pitch means water sits rather than runs, so a lap that moved in the wind holds standing water over the ceiling.
  • Boots and pipe collars cracked. Rubber baked under Florida sun goes brittle. Wind rocks the collar, the seal splits, and you get a drip over a bathroom.
  • Granules washed into the gutters. Driven rain scrubs the armor off the shingles, and a heavy load in the downspout means that roof aged years in an afternoon.

Stop the water, then take our time on the rest.

The first visit has one job: get the house dry and keep it that way. An open breach gets covered properly, fastened to survive the next cell rather than the next hour, and we record what we did because your carrier will want proof you prevented further damage. Nothing else needs deciding that day.

The permanent work comes after, once we have seen the roof in daylight and you have a written number in hand. Qualifying jobs are permitted through the Sumter County Building Division and inspected before we call anything finished, and the 10-year workmanship warranty is registered at the end. If the repair is small, we say so: plenty of storm damage is a half day of work rather than a new roof.

Where we stand on claims

You hired us, so the report is written for you.

Insurance is where roofing gets ugly, so here is our position before you hire anybody.

Storm claims live and die on documentation. We photograph every damaged element with dates, write descriptions with the code references your adjuster expects, keep records of any tarping as mitigation, and hand you a file they can actually read. When the scopes need walking together we will meet them on the roof.

What we will not do is dress up ordinary wear as storm damage. A roof that is simply old is not a claim, and telling you so is part of the job. The same goes the other way: if the damage is minor and your deductible is high, filing may cost you more than the repair would. We lay that math out and step back, because the decision is yours. Questions are welcome on the phone before you commit to anything, and you can always reach us through the contact page.

About the crews that arrive right after the weather does.

Every named storm pulls out-of-state crews into Central Florida, and rural roads get worked as hard as any neighborhood, sometimes harder, because the houses sit far enough apart that nobody compares notes. The pitch does not vary much: a free inspection, a promise the insurance will cover all of it, and a lot of urgency about signing today.

Some of those companies do fine work. Others are gone by Thanksgiving. The test takes one question. Where is your shop? Ours is at 70 County Road 532C in Bushnell, and it will still be there when a repair needs a warranty call in three years. A labor warranty is worth exactly as much as the company behind it is easy to find. Look through the work we have actually done and judge it yourself.

We also do not put anybody under contract at the door. Take the free roof check, read the written quote, and call two other roofers if you want to.

Fifteen minutes of road between us.

Webster sits inside our closest response ring, which is the whole reason we can tarp same day. We work the properties around town and out toward Center Hill and the Highway 471 corridor as well.

What people around Webster ask after a blow.

Water is coming in right now. What happens when I call?

An open breach jumps the queue. We are fifteen minutes from you at the Bushnell shop, so a tarp goes up while the weather is still moving through. Stay off the roof yourself. Wet shingles and wind are how people get hurt, and nothing you can do up there is worth it. Move what you can out from under the drip, put a bucket down, and call.

Will you tarp a barn or a shop, or only the house?

Both. Out here the outbuilding is often where the money sits: equipment, feed, hay, a truck mid-project. A peeled panel on a pole barn is a real emergency even though nobody is sleeping under it. We cover the house first if both are open, then get to the shop the same visit whenever daylight holds.

My roof looks fine from the yard. Is it worth having someone up there?

Usually, yes. The damage that costs people money is the damage that does not show. Wind folds a shingle tab back on itself and lays it down again, breaking the seal while the roof still looks untouched from the ground. On metal, a fastener backed out a quarter turn is invisible from fifty feet. Neither leaks the week of the storm. Both leak in the next long rain.

Do you handle the insurance side?

We document what the storm did with dated photos, written descriptions and the code references your adjuster expects, and we keep records of any tarping as mitigation. What we will not do is call ordinary age damage a storm claim. If your damage is small and your deductible is high, filing may not be in your interest, and we will say so. The decision stays yours.

Someone came down the road offering free storm inspections. Should I use them?

Ask one question: where is your shop. Every named storm pulls in crews who work a county hard for a few weeks and are then unreachable when a repair needs a warranty call. Ours is at 70 County Road 532C in Bushnell, fifteen minutes from Webster. Take the free roof check, read the written quote, and sleep on it. Anyone who needs your signature today is telling you something.
