The drip in your ceiling is almost never below the hole in your roof. Finding the real entry point is the whole job, and it is what we are known for.
Water travels. The stain is where it ended up, not where it got in.
Rain that gets past your roof runs along rafters, decking and insulation before it ever shows on the drywall, sometimes ten or fifteen feet from the entry point. Sealing the spot above the stain feels productive and fixes nothing. That is why the same leak keeps coming back after two or three cheap patch jobs.
Our crew traces the water uphill to its origin. Usually the culprit is failed flashing, a cracked rubber boot around a plumbing pipe, storm-lifted shingles, or a valley that has quietly clogged with debris. Once we find it, we fix the entry point, then check how far the moisture spread and whether any decking needs attention before it turns into rot.
If the leak shows up mid-storm, we can get a heavy-duty tarp over the breach fast, then come back for the permanent fix once the weather clears. Either way you get photos of what we found and a written number before the repair starts.
Where leaks start

After twenty-plus years on Central Florida roofs, the same handful of failure points cause most of the leaks we trace.
- Flashing failures. The metal around chimneys, walls and valleys pulls loose or loses its seal.
- Cracked pipe boots. Florida sun cooks the rubber around plumbing vents until it splits.
- Wind-lifted shingles. One storm lifts the seal, the next one drives rain underneath.
- Nail pops. Backed-out nails leave a hole exactly the size of the leak nobody can find.
- Clogged valleys and gutters. Water that cannot drain finds its way under the shingle line.
- Skylight and vent seals. Factory seals age out years before the roof around them does.
- Flat-section transitions. Where a low-slope porch meets the main roof, shortcuts leak.
Why fast matters more with leaks than anything else.
A roof leak is the cheapest problem you will ever ignore into an expensive one. The water you see on the ceiling is a fraction of what is soaking into insulation, framing and drywall on the way down. Give it a season and you are pricing mold remediation and a ceiling rebuild on top of the roof fix.

It is also why we photograph the moisture path while we are up there, so you know exactly what the water touched and what, if anything, needs drying out.

Why does my leak only show up in heavy rain?
Light rain runs off before it finds the gap. Heavy or wind-driven rain has the volume and the angle to work under lifted shingles or through a hairline flashing gap. That is a classic sign of a real entry point, and it will only get wider.
Can you find a leak that other roofers could not?
That is one of the most common calls we take. Tracing water takes time on the roof and in the attic, and crews that quote by volume skip it. We check the attic side whenever it is accessible, follow the staining uphill, and do not stop at the first suspicious spot.
Will insurance pay for my leak repair?
If the leak came from a specific storm event, often yes. If it came from age and wear, usually no. We document what we find with photos either way, so if there is a claim to make, you have what the adjuster needs.
